Is Invisalign Right for Your Smile?

We all want a smile so we can feel confident showing off. But sometimes, misalignment can make us want to hide our smile instead. Invisalign in Washington, DC, may be able to straighten your teeth in a discreet, easy-to-manage way. However, Invisalign treatment isn’t for everyone.

Everyone’s bite is different, and some patients may not be able to benefit from Invisalign. Your dentist can examine your smile to determine if Invisalign is right for you.

Are You a Candidate for Invisalign in Washington, DC?

While many patients prefer the discreet advantage of clear aligners for orthodontic treatment, not everyone can expect the same results from Invisalign. While it may work wonders on one patient, it could fail to be as effective in the next.

Straightening a smile can be complex and tricky, and Invisalign may not be able to help. Your dentist will discuss your cosmetic goals and go over your oral care to see if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Responsibility

One of the main factors in whether or not Invisalign works for a patient is whether or not they wear their aligners. Invisalign trays can be easily removed and put back in. This makes it a great treatment option for maintaining your regular diet and practicing good oral hygiene.

However, it also means the patient must be responsible for wearing their aligners whenever they aren’t eating or brushing. For this reason, many younger patients or patients who may struggle with remembering to wear their aligners may benefit more from traditional braces.

Complexity

Invisalign is a good treatment option for patients who have mild to moderate orthodontic cases. When you get Invisalign, all of your trays are made at the start. This means that your dentist can’t easily make any adjustments to your treatment as your teeth begin to straighten. For patients who have more complex cases of misalignment or malocclusion, traditional braces may be a better fit.

Oral Health and Restorations

Invisalign works on straightening all of your teeth at the same time. However, certain restorative work, such as implants, aren’t designed for movement. Patients who don’t have all of their natural teeth may find that Invisalign doesn’t work as well or can even become painful during treatment. For this reason, your dentist may recommend additional orthodontic treatment options if you have had restorative treatment in the past.
